AIA Campus Internship

Position Overview

AIA Youth Initiatives and Campus Internship

Position Overview

All AIA Staff are responsible for aiding in the fulfillment of the mission and vision of Athletes in Action in their respective spheres and beyond. Our hope is to see a world transformed by the gospel through sport and we labour with God to see this happen.

During the campus season this role consists of helping those in varsity athletics discover Jesus, grow in their faith, develop their unique potential and put their faith into action as they impact the world.

During the camp season this role consists of creating spaces for young children to hear and know Jesus through the implementation of summer sport camps with partnering churches in the area. These sports include soccer, basketball, volleyball and multi-sport . Through their position, coaches will engage with athletes from the grassroots level, all the way to competitive athletes at the end of their high school careers. Coaches will be expected to combat negative views of sport culture with the gospel, while inspiring churches to reach their local community.

Primary Objectives:

  1. Share the gospel and disciple to deeper maturity student athletes on their faith journey

    • In partnership with AthleteConnexion and working alongside your director, provide care for
      athletes through discipleship and evangelism opportunities.

    • Equip students to become spiritual leaders in training how to share their faith, identify gifts for
      kingdom impact and how to live out their Christian faith.

    • Assist with and attend National Training Camp, Retreat, and campus team meetings

  2. Intentionally live out your faith and share your testimony to a variety of people

    • Apply age and skill appropriate teaching techniques for sport specific skills and physical
      literacy.

    • Work closely with the Regional Director, coaching team, church volunteers and additional AIA
      staff to ensure the children are cared for, the community is reached and the gospel shared.

    • Attend coach’s training, camp meetings and orientations.

  3. Use your skills and abilities to help run a successful camp experience

    • Assist in organizing events to give more athletes an opportunity to hear about Jesus, become a
      part of AIA, or to make a decision to follow Jesus.

    • Assist in planning summer AIA Camps to help bring the gospel to children across the region.

    • Participate and present stories from ministry at both campus and camps team meetings

Education & Experience:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • You have previous athletic interest or experience

  • You have experience in sharing your faith

  • You have previous coaching experience with Athletes in Action (preferred, not required)

    • Coordinate with the Regional director to implement all details involved in running a camp.

    • Assist recruiting, hiring, training and mentoring of coaches for the duration of the summer camps period with the help of the Coach Development Coordinator and Regional Director.

  2. Assist in establishing and maintaining Action Club opportunities for athletes

    • Help to track current and past partnerships with churches and other organizations.

    • Coordinate with the Regional Director to implement all details involved in running a club.

    • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training and mentoring of volunteers and coaches for the duration of the Action Club program with the help of the Coach Development Coordinator and Regional Director.

Education and Experience:

  • You have ministry experience in church, para-church and/or sports ministry (preferred, not required)

Position Overview

The AIA Regional Director will work with regional staff, coaches and volunteers to fulfill the mission of Athletes in Action through the implementation of Action Camps, Action Clubs and other community based sports initiatives. While their main sphere of focus is their region, they will team up with the Regional Directors across Canada with the purpose of working together to develop and implement relevant resources and strategies across the country.

They oversee and are responsible for the following areas: hiring and supervising the staff and volunteer team in their region; the operation of camps, clubs and sports initiatives in their region; managing the region's budget; developing relationships with local churches and community sports groups.

As an AIA staff, you will attend the bi-annual P2C Staff Conference and annual AIA Summit.

Primary Objectives:

  1. Provide oversight to programming in their region.

    • Oversee and implement an annual budget for the region

    • Establish partnerships with churches and other organizations to provide hosts for Action Camps and/or Clubs

    • Coordinate with the Operations Manager, Director of Coach Development and Youth Initiatives National Director to implement all details involved in running a camp or club.

    • Collaborate with other Regional Directors on resources relevant across regions (eg. MTAG)

    • Set pricing for their region’s camps, clubs and other programs

  2. Lead, Develop and Grow Regional Staff Team

    • Recruit, hire, train and mentor volunteers and coaches for the duration of the Action Camp or Club program with the help of the Director of Recruitment and Director of Coach Development.

    • Working within the overall vision of the Youth Initiatives division, as well as the vision of the region, develop regional staff into a high performing team.

    • Seek opportunities to train church partners, team coaches and volunteers towards AIA certification.

  3. Collaborate with the team of Regional Directors on national topics

    • Provide feedback to the Youth Initiatives Leadership Team on the More Than a Game material and collaborate to determine a version for each camp season.

    • Together with the Director of Coach Development, annually review camp content and training for coaches.

    • Establish pricing of programs and timelines in collaboration with the Youth Initiatives Leadership team.

Education and Experience:

Director of Elite Initiatives

Position Overview

The Elite Initiatives Director is responsible for leading AIA nationally and through serving as part of the National Leadership Team to help people know Jesus and experience his power to change the world through sport. This person is also responsible for the effective leadership and management of the elite initiatives domain. This includes fulfillment and accountability of the ministry plan through OKRs (Objectives and Key Results), oversight of finances (budget, fundraising), visioning for the future, and expanding the current influence of their domain. They will work in conjunction with other AIA leaders to ensure intentional care and development of staff (MPD, training), recruit new staff, and to build strategic partnerships with other ministries and churches.

Specifically, the Elite Initiatives Director will look to increase the influence and impact of chaplaincy within the elite athletic community in Canada. There are many leagues and other opportunities to expand chaplaincy and this leader will envision and work out a plan to step into these areas. Their mandate is also to continue, alter, or transition the current impact our chaplains have in various sport leagues and with national athletes.

Primary Objectives:

  1. Provide vision, leadership, and management for AIA chaplaincy with the goal of increasing influence and impact

    • Cast vision and dream future possibilities to inspire current team

    • Create and implement a ministry plan, including OKRs, for your domain and regularly analyze the effectiveness of the plan and strategies

    • Research and identify untapped ministry opportunities in elite sport

    • Prototype ideas for solutions to needs within your domain

    • Establish partnerships with churches and other organizations

    • Recruitment plan in order to expand to new areas of chaplaincy

    • Manage the team in order to ensure clear direction and accountability

  2. Equip, empower, and enable staff to flourish in their roles

    • Work with Director of Staff Development to ensure staff receive ministry training

    • Identify leaders who can step into leadership roles

    • Provide care and spiritual leadership for staff through working with Director of Staff Care and AIA Managing Director

    • Ensure MPD health of entire staff team and provide support and accountability in conjunction with the Director of Staff Partner Development

    • Live out Acts 6:4 (Direction, Devotion, Dependence) and equip staff to do the same

  3. Contribute to overall success of AIA

    • Actively working with other domain leaders to ensure the AIA mission is being fulfilled

    • Lead up to AIA leaders and discern what the Spirit is saying for AIA as a whole

    • Provide spiritual leadership to AIA as a whole

    • Oversight and accountability of finances for your domain including managing budget, raising ministry funds

    • Track national measurements and identify whether your domain is effectively fulfilling the mission and living out the AIA values

    • Attend national events (Summit, Staff Conference) and support Grey Cup Breakfast and NTC

Education and Experience:

  • You have university degree or equivalent

  • You have experience leading and managing a team ideally in a ministry setting

Position Overview

  •  Visit each week of camp for at least 1 full camp day per week

  •  Be available during program operation for communication if needed

  •  Be in regular contact with coaches throughout the year to continue growing in relationship and encouraging their spiritual/ministry development

Education and Experience:

  • You have university degree or equivalent (preferred, not required)

  • You have ministry experience in church, para-church and/or sports ministry (preferred, not required)

Ministry Overview

Athletes in Action (a division of Power to Change) is a ministry that seeks to help people know Jesus and experience his power to change the world through sport. Position Overview

The AIA HUB Director will work to fulfill the mission of Athletes in Action by assisting the Regional Director in the implementation of Action Camps, Action Clubs and other community based sports initiatives within Grand Prairie HUB and the surrounding areas. A HUB is a specific geographic area in which several camp and/or club programs are located. They are to assist in the areas of: the maintaining and tracking of relationships with local churches, community sports groups, program coaches and volunteers; the execution of camps and/or clubs programs and sports initiatives; provide the administrative support necessary to carry out an Action Club and Camp program.

As an AIA staff, you will attend the bi-annual P2C Staff Conference and annual AIA Summit.

Primary Objectives:

  1. Assist in establishing and maintaining a schedule of Action Camps

    • Help to track current and past partnerships with churches and other organizations.

    • Coordinate with the Regional Director to implement all details involved in running a camp.

    • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, and spiritual growth of volunteers and coaches.

  2. Assist in establishing and maintaining a schedule of Action Clubs

    • Coordinate with the Regional Director to implement all details involved in running a club.

    • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, and spiritual growth of volunteers and coaches

  3. Increase the awareness and engagement of people and groups with AIA

    • Attend local camp days, missions conferences, ministerial meetings, etc. to create connections and develop future partners/coaches

    • Help RD initiate fundraising opportunities in the Grand Prairie region to supplement coach and program budget needs.

General Expectations:
